Social Systems, Cultures and Development

Project

The Book Series Social Systems, Cultures and Developement” is a permanent platform of discussion and comparison, experimentation and dissemination, to promote a transdisciplinary approach for the achievement of the methodological objectives of research-action, so as to strengthen and spread the scientific knowledge of the social sciences. “Social Systems, Cultures and Development” aims to promote the development of humanity and territories, identities and cultural heritage. All the accepted research work must revolve around three key topics: Social Systems Social systems are the totality of relationships established between individuals and groups, and which in their continuous change constitute societies. These changes can be attributed to two sets of factors: on the one hand, endogenous factors such as organisational forms, the development of scientific knowledge and technological innovation, and on the other, exogenous factors such as demographic change and, in some instances, natural disasters.

Cultures

Cultures are the expression of the totality of man’s social life; they are characterized by their collective dimension. Cultures are composed of both objective (instruments, skills, etc.) and subjective elements (believers, roles, values, etc.) and represent one of the main factors in assessing individual adherence to society: all activities and institutions are “cultural”, since they require the explicit expression of a meaning in order to operate. This does not endorse the position that social living is linked to cultural determinism, but rather supports the concept that cultures are the fundamental components of individual action.

Developement

The issue of development is evolving more and more in terms of sustainable development, known as the development process through which, despite multiple interests, environmental, social and economic demands coexist. This is possible through the combination and integration of three macro objectives that must coexist: economic competitiveness, environmental sustainability, cohesion and social balance. Each manuscript submitted in Italian, English, or French (or a miscellany of these languages) will undergo double-blind peer review.
